Pre/Post

Pre/Post Spray Tan Care

To ensure your spray tan looks flawless and lasts as long as possible, it's important to follow these pre- and post-tan care instructions. Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for and maintain your perfect glow.
How To Prepare

Pre-Spray Tan

Get all spa treatments BEFORE your spray tan:

  • Manicures
  • Pedicures
  • Facials
  • Massages
  • Waxing

The Day Before:

  • Shave or wax at least 8 hours before your appointment.
  • DO NOT exfoliate the day of your tan.
  • Keep your skin hydrated in the days leading up to your spray tan by drinking plenty of water and using lotions free of petroleum.
  • Avoid using retinol or retinoids.
  • Avoid using soaps with mineral oils and sulfates, such as bar soaps like Dove, Dial, and Ivory, as these can disrupt the pH balance of your skin, causing your tan to be uneven.

Day Of Appointment:

  • Come in with clean, dry skin for your spray tan. Give your body at least 2 hours to dry after your last shower before your tan.
  • Wear or pack appropriate clothing! After your spray tan, be prepared to wear loose, dark cotton clothing. The best outfit to wear after a spray tan is loose pants, a long sleeve shirt, and loose shoes (slides or sandals).
  • DO NOT apply any lotion, make-up, deodorant, or perfume/cologne before or after your spray tan (until after you shower).
  • If you apply any products on the same day you want to tan, EXFOLIATE before coming in for your spray tan.
How To Prepare

Pre-Spray Tan

First Shower:

  • Wait at least 8-10 hours to shower (your technician will provide the specific wait time).
  • This shower should be gentle! Use your hands only and no soap for the first rinse off in the shower. This is to remove the solution that your skin didn’t absorb.

After Your First Shower:

  • Stay dry & cool after your spray tan. Avoid washing hands, doing dishes, or any activity that could cause water to come into contact with your skin.
  • Avoid excess sweating. Exercise minimally, sleep in a cool room with a fan, etc.
  • Try to sleep in long sleeve shirts and pants to avoid skin-to-skin contact that may cause sweat marks

Maintaining Your Tan:

  • For the duration of your tan, avoid hot showers, using a loofah or washcloth, and always pat or air dry when you are out of the shower (do not rub)!
  • Use gentle products in the shower that are free of mineral oils to protect your tan.
  • Keep your skin hydrated after the first shower! Use lotions based on aloe, shea, and cocoa butter to nourish your skin and extend the life of your tan.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your spray tan looks natural, lasts longer, and keeps you glowing beautifully. If you have any questions or need further advice, feel free to contact us at morgan@sutherlandcbd.com. Enjoy your tan!
